We are seeking a detail-oriented Underwriting Analyst to join our high-performing underwriting team who will underwrite a variety of mortgage products and prepare comprehensive loan summaries. The ideal candidate will possess the following qualities:

Underwriting Analyst – Responsibilities
As an Underwriting Analyst at Hillmount Capital, you will be responsible for the following:
- Analyzing loan transactions on a qualitative and quantitative basis to underwrite and submit detailed loan summaries (which includes disciplined underwriting, thorough market research and transaction analysis) for management approval.
- Performing financial models and quantitative analysis for development or income-producing properties to substantiate value and profitability of loan transactions.
- Reviewing applicants’ credit worthiness by performing a detailed analysis of personal net worth statements, financial statements, credit reports, and other relevant data.
- Identifying potential risks and recommend mitigations to management.
- Preparing and issuing mortgage commitments and ensuring required due diligence material is obtained and reviewed, and is consistent with preliminary underwriting, deal structure, and management approval, and advising management of any material discrepancies.
- Performing site inspections and meeting with borrowers, property managers, appraisers, and other related stakeholders.
- Building relationships with the brokers and borrowers to thoroughly understand their needs.
- Corresponding with the borrowers, mortgage and real estate brokers, and other industry professionals to validate and further substantiate underwriting assumptions and gain a better understanding of particular markets and asset classes.
- Working in collaboration with the Mortgage Fulfillment team to ensure transactions are processed in a timely and efficient manner and meet funding deadlines.

- Strong analytical/mathematical skills that can be applied to complex commercial and residential lending opportunities.
- Strong leadership, communication (both written and verbal)/presentation, and interpersonal skills.
- Strong attention to detail, organizational, time management, and project coordination skills with the ability to meet strict deadlines.
- Ability to work in a collaborative team environment but also able to work well independently.
- Excellent business development and relationship management skills.
- Advanced skills in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
Education
- Undergraduate degree in business administration, finance, commerce, or real estate.
Qualifications/Experience
- Knowledge and understanding of the real estate market and lending practices is an asset but not a prerequisite.
- The candidate will either have or will be required to obtain their Mortgage Agent Licence.
